January Cruise

We decided to take a cruise for New Years.  We sailed on the Carnival Freedom out of Galveston and went to Falmouth, Jamaica, Grand Cayman Islands, and Cozumel Mexico. This first image is a black and white version of Galveston from the deck of the ship.

Galveston

Our first stop was Falmouth Jamaica.  We had stopped there before, and decided this time we would just take a tour trolley that left from the cruise port.  It took us around the town and eventually out to a small beach area.  When I looked out, on the water, there was a man approaching in a small boat with a sail.

Trelawny

Next we stopped at Grand Cayman Island.  We thought we would dock outside of Georgetown, but we docked well outside of town. We did a tour that went to San Pedro, Hell, and the beach. The third stop was Cozumel.  As always, we just took a cab into town and walked around.

San Miguel

This was outside of Los Cinco Sols looking back towards the ships. That night, as we left, there was a pretty good sunset.

San Antonio Christmas 2015

We went to San Antonio last week.  We haven’t been there in many years, and not at Christmas in a very long time.  The Riverwalk is always pretty, but they go all out for Christmas.  As we were walking along in the late afternoon, I looked up to see the sun shining through the cedar trees and almost making them glow.

But, of course, the real show is in the evening.  There are lights all over. They have a luminary every evening, and there are lights hanging from the trees. With the water reflecting them, they are really effective.

Dickens on The Strand 2015

Last Weekend was Dickens on The Strand.  As before, since we are members of the Galveston Historical Society, we were able to use the VIP room they have.  This allowed us to view the parade from a balcony, and I could get some better pictures of the parade. The “Queen’s Parade” is always Saturday afternoon, and, of course, features “The Queen.” I am not sure who this woman really is, but she portray’s Queen Elizabeth every year.

They encourage people to come in costumes, and there are always lots of steampunk costumes and lots of pirates. This was a nice street image I got of one of the pirates meeting a small boy.

Commercial Real Estate – Sprint Store

Last week I was contacted by a real estate broker to produce images of a couple of new buildings.  One was a Sprint Phone store and the other is still vacant, but will be a Mattress One Store when finished.

Hwy 287

I took Hwy 7 to Crockett and then 287 down to Port Arthur.  On Hwy 287, I saw this old structure in an area that was being used to store hay.

Hwy 7

I had to go to Lake Charles, Louisiana last week for a meeting.  On the way over, there were several places where there was lots of standing water in fields as a result of the recent rains. I topped one place over by the Trinity River and took these:

Savannah

The AMCA Board of Directors held its interim meeting in Savannah.  I went a day early too give me time to visit some of the sights.

One of the icons of Savannah is the fountain in Forsyth Park. It is impressive. Savannah personifies the old South. Lots of Live Oak trees and Spanish Moss.

I took the Hop On Hop Off Trolley tour, and it was great.  I spent the whole day seeing all kinds of sights.  I ate lunch at a restaurant called The Pirate House which was allegedly on old inn where pirates stayed. The restaurant added to the flavor by having “guides” in pirate costumes tell the customers stories of the place.

Even when we were done for the day, there was still a great moon to finish off the pictures.

Bosque County

Coming home from Clifton on Hwy 6, I found a couple of interesting rural scenes. This was an old windmill in a field.

Clifton No. 3

I went back to Clifton on Sunday because I saw some things on Wednesday that I wanted to get pictures of.  One of those was more of the details of the Bosque County Merchantile Building. This is the front of the building (actually, the building spans the block and there are entrances on both sides).

These are some of the doors that I thought looked interesting, and these are the others.

The last place I stopped in Clifton was the old Santa Fe Railroad depot.

Return to Clifton

I mentioned in my last post that we went to Clifton a couple days ago, and I saw some things that I wanted to go back to get pictures of.  I went back yesterday, and driving through town found some really interesting old buildings and places that made some fine images.  The first of those was the Dansby Feed Mill.

Walking around it, I found lots to shoot. These are the old doors on the main building.

There was another building there that appeared to be an office. The windows were boarded up, but it wasn’t with plywood, it was with sheet metal.

Across the street, there was an alley with a sign that said “Artist’s Alley” so I walked down it.  This was a doorway in that alley.
